French, German Citizens to be granted permanent visa in India

Indian nationals who are French and German residents will be able to stay in India on a permanent basis from March 2019. In order to enjoy this privilege, the applicants must give proof of holding a valid travel document.

Indians Get ‘French Citizenship’

The process of granting French citizenship to the citizens of Germany and France is set to commence from January 1, 2020. INDIAN VISA FOR FRENCH CITIZENS  The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that this will be done in order to promote bilateral ties between the two countries. The decision was taken at a meeting between French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj.

After the meeting, the MEA stated that apart from promoting bilateral ties, the move would also “facilitate better understanding between two cultures”. The process of granting French citizenship will be initiated by the respective consulates in the respective countries. The citizens of both countries will have to meet certain criteria such as being born in one of the two countries, or having lived there for a minimum period.

‘German Citizens’ Granted Indian Visa

German citizens will be granted Indian visa on permanent basis from 1st June 2018. The move is being seen as an attempt by the Indian authorities to rejuvenate the bilateral ties between the two countries. It is also seen as an effort to attract more foreign investors to India.

The decision was taken during a meeting between German Ambassador to India, Martin Erdmann and Indian Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. The ambassador said that the move would help in boosting trade and investment between the two countries. He added that the visa will be issued to those who have fulfilled all requirements such as having a valid passport and proof of funds worth Rs 50,000. INDIAN VISA FOR GERMAN CITIZENS

According to reports, there has been a decline in the number of German tourists visiting India in recent years. This decline has been attributed to various factors such as terrorism concerns and political instability in Germany. However, the ambassador believes that granting visa on permanent basis will help in reversing this trend.
