- Check if you need a visa. If you’re not a citizen of New Zealand, Australian, British (UK), Canadian, or Irish national, and you haven’t been living in New Zealand for more than six months, you’ll need a tourist visa. If you’re visiting family or friends and haven’t spent more than 90 days in New Zealand in the past 12 months, you don’t need a tourist visa. However, if your stay will exceed 30 days, you’ll need to apply for a work/study permit.
- Get your passport scanned. Once you know whether or not you require a visa, it’s time to get your passport scanned at an NZ embassy or consulate near your home country. This will help speed up the processing of your application.
- Fill out an online application form. The easiest way to apply for a New Zealand visa is through the government’s online application system – called eVisa – which is available in most languages except sign language. You’ll need to provide basic personal information (your name, date of birth and passport number), confirm that you won’t be staying in New Zealand longer than the authorized period of your visa (which is usually three months), upload two photos taken within the last six months (one must show your face) and pay the appropriate fees (£65 for tourists).
